Meeting Minutes
One new face/ Two missing faces
Monthly outdoor meeting to make room for poet's society
Discussion topic: INTERSECTIONALITY
-How oppressed identities and the confluences of more than one can either uplift or further oppress people
-The harm of pitting marginalized people against each other and amplifying differences instead of highlighting our similar struggles, using fear and proximity to power to dissolve community ties
-Oppressive systems working alongside one another (ex: capitalism, environmental change, and immigration policy leading to an easily exploitable population)
-More viewpoints involved in conversations allow for more holistic, productive , and profitable solutions to form
-Finding community through similar struggles and helping each other through
-Incremental change is still valid change despite our want for immediate and total solutions
What this means in our community:
-Find connections to people, look for commonalities instead of differences
-Recognize the best in those around us
-We all have shared experiences but none of us can truly understand each other's lives so we should meet people with grace and patience
-Remember the ways in which we struggle together and look for ways to ease each other's burdens or simply empathize
